About the Job


The College of Education and Human Service Professions and the Department of Education seek an excellent educator in Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences committed to anti-racist pedagogy and social justice. This is a tenure track position, either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. The salary range for this position will be $60-$85,000, based on experience. Job duties and responsibilities for this tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position include:

  • Teaching and advising in the undergraduate Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences program;
  • An active research agenda including but not limited to conducting and publishing peer-reviewed research and seeking external funding for ongoing research;
  • Serving the campus/community/profession through committee participation at the departmental, college and UMD level.
    Qualifications


    Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or closely related field from a regionally accredited university completed by the time the contract begins.
  • A clearly articulated research agenda or scholarly record commensurate to the rank of Assistant Professor.
  • An active commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering socially just, culturally responsive, and antiracist practices in higher education or community settings. Applicants for the position of Associate Professor must meet the requirements above and possess a distinguished record of academic achievement (scholarly research or other creative work, teaching, and service) that satisfies the criteria for Associate Professor status in the College of Education and Human Service Professions at the University of Minnesota Duluth.Preferred Qualifications
    • College teaching experience in Human Biomechanics and one of the following courses: Exercise Metabolism & Nutrition, or Exercise Testing & Prescription, or Human Anatomy & Physiology;
    • ACSM-EP, ACSM-CSP, or NSCA-CSCS certification;
    • Evidence of peer-reviewed journal publications and successful grant writing;
    • Ability to advise and mentor undergraduate students in the Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences major;
    • Experience with CAAHEP/CoAES accreditation standards;
    • Demonstrated success working effectively with culturally diverse students, colleagues, and communities, including intercultural communication skills, awareness of diverse cultural values and beliefs, and willingness to examine your own cultural biases.

      About the Department


      The Department of Applied Human Sciences is the home to multiple undergraduate degree programs: Childhood Nature Studies, Environmental & Outdoor Education, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, Physical Education Teacher Education, and Public Health. More information is available at The curriculum of the degree programs reflects the accreditation standards of the various disciplines. Students graduate from these degree programs with a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree. There are currently over 500 majors enrolled in the degree programs offered by the department. The students in the programs come from Minnesota, Wisconsin, across the Midwest and nationally and internationally.       Pay and Benefits
